Taking An Exam
Exams Explained
The exams are web-based and not test centre based. This page explains the benefits of online exams and explains how they operate in detail.
If you have already purchased your exam you can request it using the online exam form, and then go on to schedule your exam. If you have not purchased an exam, contact us for information.
You must request your exam within 4 weeks of the expiry of your course access. Once you have requested your exam, you have 5 months to schedule it before the exam voucher expires. You may, of course, request your exam before your course access expires if you feel you are ready to take it and you have completed your course.
If you do not sit your exam within the specified timeframe, you will need to purchase a new exam voucher.
Due to the examination scheme rules, we cannot issue exam access without seeing a copy of your relevant course completion certificate.
In order to take a web based exam you will require at least a 640 X 480 pixel web cam with microphone. All web based exams are remotely proctored via your web cam. You can take web based exams from the comfort of your own home or office at a time and date that you decide.
What Are Web Based Exams?
Online exams offer you a much more flexible way to take your exam.
Scheduling and taking online exams is easy. Online exams are provided by reputable examination institutes who will deliver your exam online – at a flexible location of your choosing and at a time and date that you decide. You can take your exam during the day, before work starts or in the evening.
Your exam questions are exactly the same standard and style of questions as a classroom or test centre based exam. You will see the exam questions and your possible answer options displayed on screen – and you will click to select your answer and progress to the next question. You can also skip a question, go back to review or change your answers at any time should you wish to.
Web based exams provide you with maximum flexibility without compromising standards or security.

How Do I Schedule My Exam?
When you have completed your studies, taken the sample exam included and you feel fully prepared – you can then start the registration process for your exam.
For all of our courses, there is an online Request an Exam form that you complete – which begins the process for you. This form is always available within your learning portal.
On this online form you will upload the necessary pre-requisites.
We will verify this information and complete the scheduling process. You will receive a copy of this web form for your records too.
Please allow 48 hours for us to process your exam request. Once you receive your exam registration details, you need to schedule the exam at least 72 hours before the time you wish to take it.
You may be able to take an exam in less than 72 hours with some examination institutes, but the online proctor firm may make an additional charge.
You are able to take your exam 24/7. At the required date and time – you will login to the exam system and begin your exam online. This will be remotely proctored by a real person via webcam.
If you need to reschedule your exam, you can do so as long as you provide at least 24 hours’ notice before the exam. If you fail to attend your exam or provide 24 hours’ notice you will forfeit your exam voucher and be required to pay again to take the exam.
Where Can I Take My Exam?
You can sit web based exams from a location of your choosing. Two good examples are your home or your office.
You will need a quiet room where you will not be disturbed or interrupted during your exam. Your desk should be clear of all papers and materials.
You do not need to visit any test centre or any classroom.
What Resources Do I Need?
To take your web based exam, you will need a computer with a webcam, a microphone and a reliable internet connection.
You will also need administrator rights to install the software that will be used to monitor the exam session.
You will also need photo identification (passport, government ID or equivalent). If your exam includes a document to be printed (for example ITIL Managing Across the Lifecycle case study), the printer will need to be in the room where you take the exam.
Please note, in addition to your webcam, some examination institutes will require you to have a small mirror or reflective surface. The proctor will ask you to hold this up to show that there is nothing attached to the webcam or laptop itself.

What Does My Exam Look Like?
Your exam scenarios/questions will appear on your screen as text – just like any normal web page.
You can manually control the flow and progress of all questions, skipping any question you want to return to later.
As you progress through your questions, you will simply click to select your answer from the option choices. You can change your mind later if needed.
Once you are satisfied with all of your answers you click a button to end your exam session.
You will see whether you have passed or failed straight away, although this result will need to be confirmed before it is official.
What Happens When I Pass?
You will see whether you have passed or failed straight away.
Your results will be confirmed and emailed to you within 10 working days. Your e-certificate will be available as soon as a successful result is confirmed.
What Happens If I Fail My Exam?
If for some reason you fail your exam, then you can request another exam as soon as you feel ready to try your exam again.
The tutors will be in touch with advice and guidance and some tips for any future attempts, in the event that you need to resit the exam.
